From a gallery owner: Dean has painted in the style of the Impressionists for years, with bold brush strokes, movement and energy. You can see it in the eyes, they sparkle, feel alive. Like they are looking back at you. His portraits are more than just a likeness, they capture the true spirit and personality of the subject. He is experimenting in expressionism and some abstract work which adds a whole new dimension to his portfolio. From Dean: My background is in graphic design, illustration and creative management. I have always been fascinated by the human form and especially the complexities of the face. The inner spirit that shows through the eyes. The personality that comes from the up turned corner of the mouth. The depth of feeling that can be shown in the tilt of the head. Lately I have found myself intrigued with Cuba art and music of the 50s and 60s. We'll see what happens. My talent is natural and self taught. My skill is from self discipline and the life long desire to explore the love of painting. My work is most influenced by the Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Expressionist artists. I received an award of merit for "3 Cranes" in the annual "Wings Over The Platte" competition through the Stuhr Museum in 2009. I have several books in print with my illustration, Calie's Gift, A Song for My Shepherd, What Matthais Found, Yard Bull, and The Skissey Diaries. And am working now on a series for text books, due out next year.
